The E. Ovata is a popular native, grown throughout Victoria and Tasmania, and is indigenous to Melbourne and surrounding suburbs. As its common name suggests, it grows best in poorly drained soils and will tolerate prolonged waterlogging. The Ovata produces a beautiful creamy white flower in Autumn through to Winter, and has round shaped, dark green foliage . It is fast growing, with a single trunk and a spreading canopy, making an excellent shade tree. The Ovata is a wonderful shade tree in wet/swampy ground, providing you with not only a use for that useless ground, but also with a beautiful tree to be enjoyed for many years. It is tolerant of both frost and drought conditions, making it ideal for many sites.
This tree is predominantly used in reserves, parks, and gardens, and thrives in most soil conditions. Makes an excellent shade tree for swampy areas or creek banks, but can also be planted into a windbreak.
