It is an extremely variable species, meaning it grows in many different environments, often developing in different forms. The standard form is that of a short shrub, however, if pruned correctly from a young age, it will develop into a short tree that will make a beautiful feature in gardens restricted for space. The Silver Banksia tends to flower from Spring through Autumn, and provides a yellow bottle-brush type flower that can be up to 12cm long. Its foliage is a dark green on top, with a silvery look on the bottom, providing it with a beautiful appearance year round.
This tree is predominantly used in streetscapes, parks and gardens, and thrives in most soil conditions, including sandy and wet soils.
