The Coastal Banksia is found throughout the east coast of Australia, and occurs near coastal cliffs, waterways and sand dunes. It prefers a sandy soil, but will thrive and many soil conditions, including short-term waterlogging. It is drought, frost and salt tolerant, making it a very versatile species. When young, the Coastal Banksia grow very narrow, sometimes being only 1-2m wide, however as it ages, it will widen further and provide a fuller look. The Coastal Banksia tends to flower from January through til July, and provides a pale yellow bottle-brush type flower that can be up to 12cm long. Its foliage is a dark green on top, with a silvery look on the bottom, providing it with a beautiful appearance year round.
This tree is predominantly used in streetscapes, parks and gardens, and thrives in most soil conditions, including sandy and wet soils.
