Blackwood is a spring to summer flowering tree found in many locations in Victoria and throughout the east coast of Australia. It grows best in places that experience moderate to high rainfall, and is both salt and frost tolerant. The wood of this species is quite often used as a premium furniture material, and is grown as a plantation species for high value timber production in Southern Australia. Along the south-east coast of Victoria, Blackwood typically reach a maximum height of 10-12m, compared to 12-15m in cultivation, however, in an ideal location, they may reach a height of 20m. Blackwood present a dark grey-green foliage, and a dark brown rugged bark that almost appears carved into the trunk. Blackwood are strong limbed, fast growing, and have beautiful pale yellow flowers.
This tree is predominantly used in parks and reserves and thrives in wet/well drained soil conditions.
